UN Sustainable Development Goals

The second video in "The Kompas SD video collection" is about the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. In 2015 the United Nations released the new sustainable development goals. From the 01.01.16 the agenda calls on all countries, rich and poor, to develop actions during  the next 15 years in order to achieve the new 17 goals.

The agenda includes three key themes when it comes to sustainable development: social, economic and environmental. It also includes important topics related to peace, justice and effective institutions. These goals will ensure that no one is left behind. The Sustainable Development Goals are built on the success of the Millienium Goals which were made in 2000.

“The 17 Sustainable Development Goals are our shared vision of humanity and a social contract between the world's leaders and the people (...) They are a to-do list for people and planet, and a blueprint for success” UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

In this way, many organisations around the world have started to plan how to achieve and help to implement those 17 new goals. For example the Colombian government has made a very detailed plan to integrate the SDGs with its national plan.

Finally, with this video we want you to think that there are many ways in which YOU can help to achieve these goals. It's all about being creative and taking action in your daily life. The UN gives you some examples on how to include yourself to be a part of the new SD goals : "Throughout the year, there will be many opportunities to raise your voice on various issues".

Here there is a video where you will see all the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. That can also be helpful for the activity.

This is the link of the activity that is attached to this video:SDGoalsactivity.docx
